The Life of Shivabalayogi: God Realization in a Modern World
The Life of Shivabalayogi is the comprehensive story of Shivabalayogi that draws from all available sources to chronicle his childhood, his twelve-year tapas from 1949 to 1961, his "golden years" in Adivarapupeta from 1961 to 1963, his travels throughout India, Sri Lanka, England and the United States from 1963 to 1991, his great samadhi on March 28, 1994, and his continued presence in the world today.
The Life of Shivabalayogi (2024) is a revision of Swamiji's Treasure (2007). Swamiji taught through experiences and he referred to his devotees' experiences as his jewels. The experiences Shivabalayogi evokes are Swamiji's treasure, and they include experiences and visions in meditation, spiritual trance, and physical and mental healing. His biography is incomplete without including a wide range of devotees' experiences.
Shivabalayogi completed a particularly severe tapas to attain the powers (tapas shakti) necessary to guide individuals in meditation and to evoke the experiences he generously gives. That is Shivabalayogi's public mission. But his purpose also has a less public and probably more significant aspect. Swamiji often warned about the dangers facing the modern world, particularly the lack of foundation, whether spiritual or practical, nuclear and environmental pollution, and the threat of another world war. His tapas shakti also serves unseen to keep us from destroying ourselves.
The Life of Shivabalayogi is also a record of informal conversations with Swamiji in which he answered questions on a wide variety of topics: meditation, divine trance, soul connections, the importance of foundations in life, accidents and fate, Jesus and other yogis, religion and spiritual leaders, divine beings, spirit worlds, and nuclear and environmental dangers.

Those interested in the more esoteric aspects of meditation inspired by Shivabalayogi may find much of interest in Laghu Guru Upanishad. A disciple of Shivabalayogi and a veteran of the Indian army, Gurprasad (a pen name) has written extensively about his experiences in meditation and published it in book form under the title Laghu Guru Upanishad.
The book is available through Amazon.com.
