Bhava Samadhi & Tapas

“Bhava is the beginning for samadhi and tapas.  Bhajan is for devotion [bhakti].  That’s the start for the spiritual path.”

One morning, I was alone with Swamiji and I asked him, “Swamiji, the Hindi Master tells me that Shrungavriksham Swami and Kondangi Swami did the tapas in bhava samadhi.  Is that true?” 

Swamiji said, “Yes.”

I asked, “Is that how tapas is done? Is that how Swamiji also did it?”

Swamiji replied, “Yes.  Swamiji also did tapas in bhava samadhi.”
