It was also popular because of Swamiji's smile.  Most often devotees saw Swamiji's intense expression during programs.
The broad smile in this photo was new to many.  Actually, the story goes that Swamiji had been expressing great anger at some misconduct.
For some reason, a photographer asked permission to take Swamiji's picture.  He turned and gave this smile.
